Cheap Car Insurance & Driver Honesty
There are plenty of unscientific polls around concerning cheap car insurance and I usually cover them on here but the one that I am going to write about today gives me more pleasure than most. In fact, it is amongst the most welcoming news I’ve read in the last few months – drivers are becoming more honest! Considering that drivers have taken a bashing in the media and indeed in terms of cheap car insurance premiums going up. Well, an unscientific poll it may be but the indications are good that drivers have abandoned storytelling to their insurer in favour of a more honest approach.
The survey found that cheap car insurance consumers lied in 12% of cases for women and 17% of cases for men. This is a marked improvement on previous years. The same website that conducted the new survey did the same last year and found that 32% of women and 17% of men had told lies. As you can see, the figures have really improved.
These results come on the back of reports that insurers were facing more fraudulent claims this year than ever before, with many drivers doing things like including previous knocks and scrapes in cheap car insurance claims, exaggerating what happened to increase the payout via injury claims and even changing driver names to suit them. This is a huge reason as to why premiums have been going up exponentially and I have written numerous blogs on it before. The fact is that cheap car insurance providers are cracking down on fraudulent claims and indeed those that gave false information to begin with so telling the truth definitely pays now more than ever before.
Choosing to tell the truth when you take out cheap car insurance is not optional, no matter what you may think. A tiny little lie, such as withholding information about a slight modification on your car, can mean that your insurance is withdrawn in the event of an accident. Your general rule of thumb should be “if in doubt, tell the insurer about it”. Of course, your life history is not important but any changes to the car are. Answering all questions honestly and giving details where possible is essential too. After all, they ask them for a reason. Lying may save you a few pounds here and there but there is no excuse for breaking the law, and that is exactly what you would be doing by being economical with the truth.
