A recent report by the FSA (Financial Services Authority) has raised issues that have been widely reported in the press concerning the validity of using insurance comparison sites. Everyone knows that they allow people to see various quotes from a huge variety of providers, including mainstream and specialist providers of home insurance, motorbike insurance, van insurance and cheap car insurance. Most people view comparison sites as positive because they encourage competition and empower consumers to find insurance that is well within their budget rather than stretching it to the limits.
Do you have home insurance and separate home emergency cover? If you do then you may need to check your paperwork to see who covers you because, according to a Guardian newspaper report, Homecall+ went bust a week or so ago. Previously one of the leading providers of home emergency cover, its demise has left its thousands of customers without the protection against emergencies that they thought they could rely on. If you are one of them then you absolutely need to check out your options and consider whether or not you should get even more cover or simply drop the emergency protection for good.
If you do feel that you need to take out emergency cover then you have several options.
If you have read a few of my posts over the past few months then you will be aware of the fact that I watch Watchdog to see if there are any insurance related matters every week. This week was a huge one because the show revealed an incredible fault with the Citroen C3 Picasso. As the car is a French vehicle that has been adapted to suit the British market, it has a master brake cylinder on the passenger side. As this is not sufficiently protected by the design, it is possible to operate the brake from the passenger side. This could potentially invalidate your womens car insurance if it causes a crash.
So why is it particularly important to women?
If you’ve seen the news in the past few days then the likelihood is that you’ve seen the big news for UK drivers – police will soon be able to issue instant fines for drivers that are caught speeding, eating and drinking behind the wheel, talking on the phone, cutting other drivers up and parking where they should not be. This is going to have a huge impact on many people but it will have an even bigger one for those driving for a living, like taxi drivers for example.
Taxi insurance may well go up as a result of these measures because the likelihood is that if you do any of the things mentioned above then you will get a fine of at least £80 and at least 3 points applied to your license. If y
Are you get angry about the rising premiums of your so called cheap car insurance? If you are then you are definitely not on your own and in fact may be about to get even more angry if you did not see any cheap car insurance related news yesterday because…
One of the leading car insurance providers in the UK announced that their profits were up by a staggering 56% in the first quarter of 2011. Yes, despite saying that premiums had been put up and are now stretching the average family budget to breaking point because they were losing money, car insurance companies are in fact stretching the truth themselves to put it mildly.
What can you do? Well, don’t get mad get even instead. Mak
Do you live in Dorking? If you do then the likelihood is that you were more than a little unhappy when your home insurance renewal premiums dropped on your door mat this year. A report on home insurance premiums recently revealed that the average rise in Dorking last year was from £119 to £174, or 46%. If there was a lot of crime, claims as a result of flooding or weather damage, or even issues with the housing there then this would be understandable. What if there were no such circumstances for the highest rise in the UK though?
The report looked at 3.4 million quotes for buildings and contents insurance and noted that there had been significant rises all over the UK but none as hefty as Dorking despite a low crime rate and no natural disasters. It
