Do you have home insurance and separate home emergency cover? If you do then you may need to check your paperwork to see who covers you because, according to a Guardian newspaper report, Homecall+ went bust a week or so ago. Previously one of the leading providers of home emergency cover, its demise has left its thousands of customers without the protection against emergencies that they thought they could rely on. If you are one of them then you absolutely need to check out your options and consider whether or not you should get even more cover or simply drop the emergency protection for good.

If you do feel that you need to take out emergency cover then you have several options.

Do you live in Dorking? If you do then the likelihood is that you were more than a little unhappy when your home insurance renewal premiums dropped on your door mat this year. A report on home insurance premiums recently revealed that the average rise in Dorking last year was from £119 to £174, or 46%. If there was a lot of crime, claims as a result of flooding or weather damage, or even issues with the housing there then this would be understandable. What if there were no such circumstances for the highest rise in the UK though?

The report looked at 3.4 million quotes for buildings and contents insurance and noted that there had been significant rises all over the UK but none as hefty as Dorking despite a low crime rate and no natural disasters. It

The first Sunday in November marks the time to set your clocks back. It also marks the onset of darker evenings. Home insurance experts say it’s a time when burglars can increasingly target properties this time of year. They have more dark hours which gives them a great opportunity to strike, according to Halifax Home Insurance. The insurance provider says last year they recorded a 63 percent increase in burglary claims during winter months compared to summer months. “Year on year we typically see far more burglaries occurring during the winter,” said Halifax Home Insurance Senior Claims Manager Martyn Foulds in a news release. ” Bur Read full article…

Beware the new policy discount on your home insurance! I recently had my home insurance policy renewal come through my door and was astounded to find that the contents alone had gone up by £15 a month. Now this may not seem like a lot but when you consider the total over the year, it really is. I called to find out why this amount had been added to my policy considering I had not made a claim and was told that it was because my new policy discount, which had been applied when I took out the policy as a new customer the previous year, no longer applied.

This may sound bogus and I believe that it is but it is how companies draw you in and get you to sign up.

Home insurance is a fantastic product that covers all sorts of elements of life today. From bicycles to mobile phones to cash to luggage when you go on holiday, most policies cover a whole range of things that you absolutely have to have covered if you want to minimise your losses. However, this year people trying to save money have not taken out travel insurance because it has been pointed out by several money experts that some home insurance policies do cover certain items. Home Insurance & Fraud

Posted in Car Insurance Topics by Christine Davis on August 5, 2010 No Comments yet

This is a quick follow up on one of my recent posts about the problem of fraud in the insurance industry. As I previously said, home insurance fraud is a major problem in the industry and accounts for the vast majority of fraudulent claims. As a result of that, some insurers are starting to change their approaches to claims and are also starting to make it a little bit more difficult to claim. As annoying as this may be to those homeowners and renters that are honest, it should ultimately keep premiums lower than they would otherwise be.

Home insurance claims departments are now making the claiming process more rigorous with independent assessors being called in to offer damage assessments in order to verify claims.
