Car insurance fraud is something that many auto insurance companies face on a daily basis. It is very sad that criminals feel it necessary to take advantage of their auto insurers by staging accidents and filing false auto claims for accidents that they faked on purpose. Law enforcement officials have begun cracking down on people who engage in this type of illegal activity.

In Tampa Bay, Florida law enforcement officers from Hillsborough County took action against multiple assailants who have allegedly staged car accidents. The police involved call their investigation into the auto insurance fraud “Operation No Pain No Gain”. Off

This is a quick follow up on one of my recent posts about the problem of fraud in the insurance industry. As I previously said, home insurance fraud is a major problem in the industry and accounts for the vast majority of fraudulent claims. As a result of that, some insurers are starting to change their approaches to claims and are also starting to make it a little bit more difficult to claim. Car Insurance Fraud occurs when insured and uninsured drivers try to stage an accident, so that they can collect money from the victim’s insurance company. Car Insurance Fraud is a serious problem over here in the UK with people intentionally causing crashes with the aim of claiming damages on the car’s insurance and in some cases demanding compensation for fabricated injuries.

In New York people had been going one step further where they were hiring middlemen to ‘steal’ their car and make it disappear so that the owner could get it replaced on their car insurance or get large settlements from the insurers.

New York Police set up a sting operation by putting undercover detectives in a repair shop in Queens where the fraudsters were taking the vehicles that were stolen for destroying.

You may have an image of a shifty looking character as the typical person to commit car insurance fraud but of the 61 people caught out in the sting some included a used car dealer and shockingly a New York Police Officer.
